Yes, a valid South African freshwater fishing licence is required at all times when fishing on the Vaal. This is a legal requirement under the Marine Living Resources Act, administered by DFFE. The Amur Falcon (Amoervalkie) is a small raptor that breeds in eastern Asia and migrates annually to southern Africa, a round trip of more than 20 000 km. Every October, tens of thousands pass through North West Province, with roost sites numbering in the thousands of birds. At KDF Experience, you can watch groups of 50 to several hundred birds hunting insects on the wing, with dusk roosts that are genuinely spectacular.

The peak is typically the second and third week of October. October is our most popular month, book early.

Yes. The night sky here is exceptional and every guest can see the Milky Way clearly from their stand on a clear night, no booking or add-on required. The North West bushveld sits well outside major light pollution zones, so the sky delivers on its own. Just step outside, look up, and let your eyes adjust.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the private stands. They must be kept on a lead at all times on the property and are not permitted inside the communal facilities or the Chalet. Please pick up after your dog. Please note that the Vaal River supports wildlife including waterbirds with ground nests, keep dogs away from the reed beds and riverbank vegetation. Not all stands are equally suitable for dogs, let us know when booking and we'll allocate accordingly.

Yes, caravans and motorhomes are welcome on the dedicated caravan stands, with one caravan per stand. Tents can also accommodate a caravan or off-road setup. Electrical hookups are not available, so please bring a sufficient battery or solar setup for your caravan's needs.

Quiet hours are from 22:00 to 07:00. Loud music is not permitted at any time on the property, KDF Experience is a nature-focused camp and we maintain a low-noise environment out of respect for the wildlife and other guests. Fires must be properly extinguished or safely contained by midnight.

Yes, the maximum per private stand is 6 people. This applies regardless of the number of tents or caravans. The limit is set to maintain the quality of the communal facilities (ablutions, kitchen) for all guests on the property.

Leeudoringstad is the nearest town, approximately 15 km from the property. It has petrol stations and basic amenities. We recommend arriving fully stocked, the property is self-catering and we do not have an on-site shop. Firewood and basic supplies can be purchased from us directly.

The main access road is a gravel farm road, suitable for most vehicles including sedans in dry conditions. After heavy rain, the last few kilometres may be soft. If you are coming during or after significant rainfall, contact us and we'll advise on conditions. A 4x4 is not required under normal conditions.

Signal is available but variable depending on your network. Vodacom and MTN generally have usable signal on the property. Data speeds are adequate for messaging and basic browsing. Wi-Fi is also available on site.
